The Nicholls Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program, offered both in-person and 100% online, helps students delve into the human psyche to explore what makes individuals both unique and alike. The program is designed to provide a strong foundation for students who wish to pursue advanced degrees in psychology or related areas upon graduation or to provide a strong liberal arts education that can be applied in a variety of fields.
Courses focus on psychological knowledge, skills, and research. Students learn about the development and structure of personalities, disorders associated with the nervous system and their effects on behavior, as well as diagnosis and treatment of abnormal behavior. The curriculum also focuses on research design and methods related to human and animal behavior, career planning, and psychological testing for intelligence, attitude, achievement, and personality. Online courses are offered in eight-week sessions at an accelerated pace, and with the same professors as students who take on-campus courses.
While the majority of psychologists specialize in clinical practice and provide counseling and mental health care, the job market is broad and diverse for individuals with psychology degrees.
Psychology degree programs not only prepare students for careers in health services but also open up opportunities for them in fields such as administration, community relations, advocacy, research, human resources, public relations, advertising, special education, social work, retail, and sales.
