The Nicholls Associate of Science in Petroleum Services, offered in-person and 100% online, combines work experience and academic coursework to prepare students for management positions in the well–drilling, oil and gas production, and service and supply segments of the petroleum industry. This associate degree is both a stand-alone degree and a foundation for the two plus two (2+2) degree pathway. The courses that make up the sixty credit hours of the associate degree provide the foundation for the Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering Technology (PETC). Students will often choose to graduate in two years with an associate degree and continue for another two years to complete the bachelor’s degree. Many also become employed in the industry after graduating with the associate degree, and then, by way of the unique course scheduling offered in the PETC program, those students may earn a bachelor’s degree while working. Upon graduation, students will be able to research problems using basic scientific principles; communicate technical information to team members in a professional manner; understand the importance of training, continued education and professional development for career advancement; and obtain gainful, entry-level employment in a petro-technical position.
Petroleum Services students are provided with marketable skills that greatly help them in seeking promotions and advancing to managerial positions. The program works with a host of industry companies, including major oil companies, which actively recruit graduates through on-campus interviews. The associate degree program prepares students for the more complex technical and lower-to-middle management positions in production and drilling operations. Petroleum services graduates are employed by drilling contractors, service companies and major oil and gas companies.
