Interested in working in the healthcare field? Today’s healthcare workforce is one of the largest labor sectors in the United States. Students interested in health and medicine have a variety of options when choosing a career path. Through the Nicholls Online Health Sciences program, you can begin your pursuit of a health-related career with a concentration in either health and wellness or supervision and management. Online courses are offered in eight-week sessions at an accelerated pace, and with the same professors as students who take on-campus courses.
The health and wellness concentration (AHHW) is designed for students interested in various arenas of health and wellness, including, but not limited to, opportunities for credentialing in fitness and sports performance, as well as preparation for formal graduate study.
The healthcare supervision and management (AHHS) program prepares students to assume middle management, supervisory, or coordinator positions in a healthcare agency, or to pursue formal graduate study in healthcare management, public health, or healthcare administration and services. With a current credential and associate’s degree, students are eligible for advanced standing.
A degree in Health Sciences can open up many different entry-level roles upon graduation. Students may seek employment in medical offices and health clubs as managers, in nursing homes as activity coordinators, or jobs with state health governmental offices. Some students may already be employed with an associate’s degree or other certification, but may need the bachelor’s degree to move up into a management role. Other students seeking to complete the Health Sciences degree are interested in applying to professional or graduate schools. Students may apply to occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician’s assistant, public health, or healthcare management graduate programs, for example. There is a wide range of salary opportunity depending on which field of study and geographic area the student decides to practice in.
