Teacher in front of students at an adult education class

Child Development and Literacy, B.S.

Concentration: Teacher Certification Concentration

There is a growing need and increased demand for trained and highly qualified professionals in early child care, child development, family relations, and consumer sciences. Child development professionals work in partnership with families to create a nurturing environment that is respectful of culture and rich in experiences to promote the optimal growth and development of each child.

If you are ready to make your dream of becoming an early childhood development professional a reality, then Grambling State University’s Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) has program options that are right for you. FCS offers a Bachelor of Science in Child Development and Early Literacy with two concentration options, a general concentration and a teacher certification concentration. The general concentration is available 100% online and will certify you to work in a variety of child- and family-centered careers. The teacher certification concentration is in-person and will prepare you to earn licensure as a child care worker or a pre-kindergarten teacher. Both degree programs are designed to equip you as an early childhood specialist and feature coursework on such topics as child care center organization, instructional technology, health and wellness, and much more so that you can foster optimal growth and advancement for children from birth to eight years of age.
