Concentration: Family Science


Sociology is a social science that focuses on the study of families, communities, organizations and societies, and the social relationships, interactions and cultures they contain. This field of study encompasses a broad range of phenomena, ranging from the smallest daily encounters to global cultural movements. 

As a major in sociology at McNeese, you’ll study interpersonal communication, governmental structures, inequality, race and gender, and learn how to apply empirical investigation and critical analysis techniques such as research design, sampling procedure and secondary data analysis to form and analyze theories on social order and societal changes. Through experience with a broad range of sociological research methods involving theory, methods and statistics – plus training on advanced computer software – you will graduate capable of finding jobs in many public and private sectors involving regional, national and international organizations.
